NITESHA is a Japan based online secondhand bookshop established in 2012. Specialized in art, design and photography books. In addition to that, having a particular interest in Asian art books, we aim to introduce design books, photography books and artist books from Japan, Taiwan, China, Korea and so forth. “Nite” means “secondhand” in Chinese (nite in Japanese, er shouˇ in Chinese pronunciation) . Before the mass production of books by machine, each book is carefully handled by numerous people with their hands, books could be regarded as one kind of handicraft. With the concept of “passing the baton”, Nitesha as a transit point between the authors and the readers, we aim to deliver the books worldwide and recycle used books, keep the books that we considered valuable for the next generation. What’s more, Nitesha seeks for the possibilites of being ‘more than a bookstore’. We collaborate with design offices and media related industries. Such as planning and selecting books for shelf, working as a project coordinator for events in Taiwan and Japan, writing essay for photography and art related topics and so forth. Without limiting the possibilities as a bookshop, Nitesha aims to develpe more innovative connections with society.
