This is the debut photobook of Taiwanese female photographer Wang Xin. It consists of photographs taken on Orchid Island, a small island in southeastern Taiwan. She visited Orchid Island twice in the summers of 1974 and 1975, capturing portraits of the indigenous Tao people, the island's landscape, and their way of life with a meticulous yet cutting-edge gaze. Although Wang Xin is now considered a pioneer among female photojournalists, she was not as highly regarded at the time. However, Taiwanese photographer Chang Chaotang (1943-2024) and photo critic Kuo Lixin have described her photobook as a "historical monument" and highly praised it. In recent years, Orchid Island has also faced noteworthy issues, such as the radioactive leak from a radioactive waste storage facility. This book will be valuable as an important document regarding these social issues. She finally published this book 10 years after completing her photography on Orchid Island. The thoughts and feelings behind this long gap remain a mystery.
