Peter Beard was born in New York in 1936. After studying classical painting theory at Yale University, he moved to Kenya in 1961 and met Karen Blixen (Isak Dinesen 1885-1962) of Out of Africa. In 1963 he published The End of the Game. The mass death of elephants from starvation and stress, caused by population growth within politically delineated protected areas, casts a light on environmental issues by looking at the future of humankind. In 1973, he also published Eyelids of Morning, based on his research on crocodiles at Lake Rudolph. This book is a gorgeous collection of works published by Taschen in 2008. Volume 1 contains 200 pages of his "diary", which can be said to be his collage work, and 294 pages of collages. Volume 2 includes a captioned index of all the images in Volume 1, an interview with Steven M.L. is noted here.
