The *Record* series was launched by Daido Moriyama in 1972 as a self-published project to re-examine his own photography. While he handled publication himself for the first five issues, Akio Nagasawa Publishing has taken over the role starting with the sixth issue in 2006. This particular volume is a special edition marking the first time Daido Moriyama and Hajime Sawatari have collaborated in print after decades of friendship. The book features Moriyama¡Çs "SNAP" when opened from the left and Sawatari¡Çs "TAO" when opened from the right; consequently, the front and back covers are designed to be upside-down relative to one another.
