After publishing a photo collection of Sanrizuka, the site of a struggle over the construction of an international airport in Japan from the 1960s to the early 1970s, Kazuo Kitai subsequently distanced himself from the city and traveled to villages across Japan. The photographs he took during this time were serialized in the magazine Asahi Camera at the time and compiled into the photo book "
To the Village". This book was newly compiled in 1990 by Michitaka Ota of Sokyusha Publishing. This collection features photographs taken during Kazuo Kitai's four-year travels in his late twenties, from Okinawa in the south to Aomori in the north and Beijing, China. The pristine landscapes of rural Japan have become lost historical documents. Signed.
