Six is a visual magazine by Comme des Garcons, produced in a total of eight issues over a four-year period from 1988 to 1991, with art director Tsuguya Inoue and editor Atsuko Kozasu (1933-1993). The first issue featured works by Hungarian photographer Andre Kertesz (1894-1985), Irish furniture designer and architect Eileen Gray (1878-1976), German sculptor Michel Sauer, and an interview with Yohji Yamamoto. It is said that 26,000 copies were printed.
I don't think of it as art. Six is one of the most accurate ways to communicate the existence of Comme des Garcons. I don't know where Six, or the "sixth sense," is. But it certainly exists. That spirit is not necessarily something that can be conveyed directly through clothing, something that cannot be expressed through words or the body, something that appeals to senses other than the five. - Rei Kawakubo
