Experimental Workshop was formed in 1951, when Japan was undergoing rapid economic and cultural recovery after its defeat in World War II. The group, which was a gathering of artists and musicians who were just starting out at the time, transcended the boundaries of genre and left behind many groundbreaking activities. Their activities are now considered to be noteworthy in Japan's postwar art history. This book focuses on the period from 1951 to 1957, when the workshop was active as a "Jikken Kobo", and looks back on the workshop's activities based on performance pamphlets, documentary photographs, newspaper and magazine reviews, etc., and reconsiders its overall picture. Although the main content is written information, it also includes statements and texts by Shuzo Takiguchi and other members, as well as round-table discussions, making it an extremely valuable resource.
