Irina Ionesco was born in Paris to her Romanian parents and spent her childhood in Romania. She returned to Paris in 1946 and she lived as a dancer for about 10 years from around 1951, but because of her illness she entered a recuperative life and she began painting. She gets a Nikon F on Christmas night in 1964. She meets a girl named Anook, and by taking a picture of her, she sets out as a photographer. Since then, she has continued to photograph a number of women, including her daughter Eva (she was indicted in 2012 by her real daughter for damages). Her unique style of surrealism has not diminished, and she continues to shoot her work, known as modern baroque photography. A new edition of the book published by Kawade Shobo Shinsha in 2004.
