Peter Doig was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1959, grew up in Canada, lived and worked in London for 20 years and now lives in Trinidad. He is one of the most important artists in recent years and has been rated year after year. This book is a catalog produced for a large-scale retrospective exhibition that has toured Europe, starting with Tate Britain in 2008. Works drawn from photographic sources such as movie stills, newspaper photos, postcards and album covers, as well as ski resorts and frozen lakes from my childhood in Canada, tropical landscapes in the Caribbean, London and Spain. It contains more than 60 major works, including works inspired by the environment in which he lived and the changes in society, from the urban environment of the city. Also included is a contribution by noted art historian and critic Richard Shiff, as well as a revealing dialogue between Doig and British artist Chris Ofili.
