A collection of works created to accompany artist Tom Sachs' exhibition "Nutsy's" at the Deutsche Guggenheim Berlin in 2003. He used foam board, glue, plywood, steel, scavenged timber, asphalt, a radar gun, booze, a turntable, and LP records to build a 4,000-square-foot installation that marries the idealistic modernism of Le Corbusier with the commercialized modernism of McDonald's. The culmination of Tom Sachs' studio work at the time, Nutsy's was originally inspired by Le Corbusier's 1952 Unité d'Habitation, a gigantic 12-story building that came to symbolize both the perfection of modernism and its subsequent corruption. Reflecting on the ideals of modernism, Sachs, a master of bricolage, began to explore its other side.
