Born to a Ukrainian mother and a Czech father, Bohdan Holomicek moved with his family to Mlade Buky on the border between Poland and the Czech Republic after the war, where they were forced to live in extremely harsh conditions. Of his five children, only three survived. However, he started taking photographs after receiving a camera as a Christmas present at the age of 13, and even after he grew up and worked as an electrician at a power plant, he continued to take thousands of photographs. This book is his first monograph, published in his native Poland in 1995. It includes photographs from his earliest period, the 1950s, through to the 1990s.
