The oil fields in the Arctic Ocean of Alaska boast the largest crude oil reserves in North America. The oil extracted here is transported by a pipeline that runs across Alaska from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez. Photographer Ishizuka Gentaro spent three years in the 2000s photographing this pipeline, the second longest on Earth after the Great Wall of China. The landscape, with structures stretching uninterrupted into a vast, uninhabited natural space, is manmade yet beautiful. The photo book is rolled up and stored inside a tube that resembles a pipe. It is a good example of a match between the concept of the photograph and the book design.
