This illustrated encyclopedia of the modern bizarre was published by Shinchosha in 1931, shortly after the start of the Showa era. It dates back to the era of "ero, grotesque, nonsense," a buzzword and cultural trend of the early Showa era. A look at the table of contents reveals a plethora of content exuding a salacious and exotic atmosphere, with words like "erotic," "grotesque," "nonsense," and "bizarre." It includes nudity, stand-up comedy, and a thought-provoking appendix, as well as numerous photographs and illustrations, making it inspiring even from a modern perspective. The stylish, modern design, including the box, was created by Sano Shigejiro (1900-1987), a Western-style painter who was also known as a book designer.
