Since the early 1970s, Rebecca Horn (1944–2024) established a unique and internationally acclaimed position for herself, remaining independent of the prevailing artistic trends of the time—such as conceptual art and minimalism. Her diverse body of work—spanning sculpture, installation, drawing, painting, film, and performance—embodies elements of richness, theatricality, sensuality, poetic lyricism, feminism, and body art. While her early works explored the relationship between the body and space primarily through performance, she later shifted to using kinetic sculptures in place of the living body. The physical dangers associated with machinery, knives, and electricity constitute a recurring theme throughout her oeuvre. This book documents approximately thirty years of her artistic activity—encompassing performances, films, sculptures, and installations—from 1968 to 1995.
