This is the first photobook by Kazuo Kitai—created when he was 74—to feature work shot entirely digitally. Departing from the long-form, narrative-driven structures of his previous projects, this collection presents photographs taken during a journey spanning from Tsugaru and Aokigahara to the Fuefuki River, Hiroshima, and Kumano. Rather than being bound by a single, overarching theme, the images function as a series of "short stories." At the heart of the book lie the acts of walking and the very concept of the "path." Throughout, the photographer’s gaze remains consistent: he observes the landscapes he encounters, discerning the time and memories of the people who have walked those same grounds. The volume also includes contact sheets from the "October 8th Haneda Struggle"—an event Kitai documented some 50 years ago—allowing his contemporary travel photographs to intersect with records from the past. The project utilizes digital photography, inkjet printing, and state-of-the-art digital printing technology for its production. Kitai himself described his approach as "lighthearted," a sentiment reflected in the book’s liberated, fluid structure. Published in a limited edition of 160 copies, this work marks a new mode of photographic expression for Kazuo Kitai.
