Few people have photographed reality in a less beautiful way than Boris Mikhailov. He captures an unadorned natural state. In his photographs, which lack aesthetic sophistication, he focuses on people and their lives. Traveling through Russia, Germany, and his native Ukraine, Mikhailov has observed the poor, the rich, the exiled, and the homeless alike. This book is based on an artist book created in 1999 at the suggestion of the Heiner Muller Society after Boris Mikhailov's name was discovered in one of the German playwright Heiner Muller's notebooks. It is recorded as is.
