Since the late 1950s, artist James Rosenquist has consistently produced interesting work. A pioneer of American pop art in the 1960s, Rosenquist was a pioneer of American pop art in the 1960s, along with contemporary artists such as Jim Dine, Roy Lichtenstein, and Andy Warhol. Together, they used the popular iconography of advertising and mass media to evoke a sense of modern life. This book is a catalog created in conjunction with a comprehensive retrospective exhibition that toured Houston, New York, and Spain from 2003 to 2004, and was created by renowned curators Walter Hopps and Sarah Bancroft. The exhibition was organized by Bancroft. It provides an overview of his more than 40-year career in painting, sculpture, collage, and drawing, as well as chronicling the prolific activity of a key figure in contemporary American art.
