Masako Tomiya was born in Kuroishi City in the southern part of Tsugaru. She met and studied under Issei Suda while she was a student. After graduating from university, she moved to Tokyo and studied at the Tokyo College of Photography's graduate school. This is her first photo book. Since her time at university, she has taken small trips every time she returned home, photographing Tsugaru and its surrounding areas, as well as Aomori Prefecture. The end result was a major work that took 11 years to complete. The format seems to be influenced by her teacher, Suda, but the style is a little different from the Tsugaru photographs taken by her predecessors, such as Ichiro Kojima and Daido Moriyama.
