Ten years before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Stephen Shore traveled to Ukraine in 2012 and 2013 to visit with 35 survivors, mostly women, of the Holocaust that took place during the war. By photographing the survivors and their homes, Shore visually explores their experiences through the details of everyday life and how the horrific history of the Holocaust affects the viewer of the portraits.
