The history of Barbie dates back to 1959. The Handlers, who were also co-founders of Mattel in the United States, were inspired by a mascot doll they found while traveling and came up with the idea of developing a dress-up doll. They then asked a Japanese toy wholesaler, Kokusai Boeki, to develop and produce the doll, and sent costume designer Charlotte Johnson to Japan. After more than a year of repeated prototypes, the Barbie doll was finally completed. This is a collector's book that covers the history of Barbie, a familiar dress-up doll in Japan with a long history, including her wardrobe, friends, family, and accessories. The books are presented in color in chronological order. The author is Sarah Sink Eames, who has been buying and collecting Barbies since she was a child. This is a two-volume set consisting of Volume 1 covering the period from 1959 to 1967 and Volume 2 covering the period from 1968 to 1974.
