In August 1980, internationally acclaimed contemporary calligrapher Yuichi Inoue (1916-1985) began a major reorganization of his own work. Starting with sorting through old mail from around the time of the end of the war, the decision was made to discard approximately 1,500 of his 100-size masterpieces, preserve 1,000, and discard 3,000 of his 50-size or smaller works, preserve 1,000. During the reorganization, art critic Masaomi Unagami (1931-2019) visited the site and selected 28 pieces for the exhibition. He then compiled 12 of these into a full-size portfolio, which he published as this book. Each piece is printed as a separate plate, unbound and interleaved. The book is designed for easy access and framing. Signed.
