Photobook Festival Photobook AwardÂè2°Ì¼õ¾ÞºîÉÊ¡£Toshitsugu Yamawaki (1956–2016) was born in Tokyo in 1956. He was self-taught in oil painting, drawing, design, and photography, and pursued his creative work in cities such as Paris, New York, Los Angeles, and Sydney. After working for a publishing company, he established his own studio, "studio a la page," and also worked as an art director. Upon entering his fifties, he dedicated himself to his own artistic practice, beginning to present photographic works as one form of expression within the realm of comprehensive art. In 2011, he published his first photobook, *Dimension of Vision*, which photography critic Kotaro Iizawa described as "cultured photography." This volume is Yamawaki's third photobook. It is a privately published edition in which he personally handled every aspect, from editing and printing to binding. Fragments of imagery—akin to shards of the world—are rhythmically arranged across the spreads, inviting the reader to discover various interpretations and spaces for contemplation. The book offers a unique sensory experience: the distinctive scent of the white-painted cover and the unique tactile quality created by the use of *washi* (Japanese paper) for the pages. It is no exaggeration to say that the book itself is a work of art to be experienced with all five senses. This work won second place at the Photobook Festival Photobook Award held in Kassel, Germany.
