12 years old. Being a young woman in America is a time of great excitement and great social potential, but also a time when the differences between childhood and adulthood are not fully understood. A photo book by American photographer Sally Mann that captures portraits of girls at the delicate age of transitioning between adulthood and childhood. All of the women were photographed in Lexington, Virginia, where Sally Mann lived most of her life. Many of them were cared for by Sally's father, who had been the town doctor for over 40 years.
