This is a striped book from the Meiji period, with striped fabrics pasted on it. It was also sometimes called a striped sample book or a striped specimen book. The year written on the back cover is 1908 (Meiji 41). There are hundreds of different types of striped fabrics, tightly packed into thick Japanese paper. Judging from the library stamp on the front cover and in the margins, it is thought to have originated from the silkworm-raising region of Yamagata Prefecture. In any case, it is a valuable document on the customs of the time, offering insight into trends and things that could only be reproduced on the looms of the time, and it is a book that symbolizes the seriousness and meticulousness of the Japanese people.
