This is a collection of illustrations by Yamana Ayao (1897-1980), one of the pioneers of the early days of graphic design in Japan, alongside Kono Takashi (1906-1999) and Hara Hiromu (1903-1986). While his work from his time at Platon-sha in Osaka, where he previously worked, was published in 1928 as a co-authored work with fellow artist Yama Rokuro (1897-1982) in the book Josei no Cut (Women's Cuts), this volume includes illustrations from his later years at Shiseido and for magazines such as Fujin Gaho. However, the original drawings were done on rough paper at the time, and Yamana himself wrote them all down, as they could not be plated. The materials were carefully preserved throughout the war, and the book was finally published in 1953 to dispel the emptiness he felt after the war.
