This photo book was published as a record of the joint collective exhibition "Photographers' Eyes '74: What is Japanese?" held in 1974 by members of the Japan Professional Photographers Society. Over 60 people, active in various fields at the time, from young to veteran, participated. A total of 5,000 photographs were submitted, of which approximately 300 make up the exhibition. The photographic expression is wide-ranging, covering documentary, landscape, nude, customs, and politics. Famous participants include Kijima Takashi, Hamaguchi Takashi, Hayashi Tadahiko, and Watanabe Yoshio. The endpapers are signed by the exhibition's executive director, Nakatani Yoshitaka, as well as Sano Tsuneo, Iijima Koei, and Aoki Katsu.
