The Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp is a historic Belgian school that produced Martin Margiela and the Antwerp Six in the 1990s. This book is a collection of works by students from the fashion department who graduated in 2006. At the time, it was said that only about 10 out of 100 students would graduate, but this year, for the first time in its history, 17 students graduated. Normally, final-year students would present their work in a small calendar distributed at the graduation show in June, but in 2006, the students worked together to compile it in the form of a magazine. However, the project was not just to present the graduation collection, but also to provide insight into creativity, inspiration, and ways of thinking about fashion. The 17 students were then paired with 17 fashion designers, most of whom were from the academy, and they interviewed, talked, and photographed each other, pairing one of the student's silhouettes with a garment, object, or accessory proposed by the designer. The pairings were decided by drawing lots, and the results were often unexpected. Three Japanese graduates were Koji Arai, Akiko Murata, and Mikio Sakabe, with Arai paired with Martin Margiela, and Sakabe graduating with honors. Demna Gvasalia, founder of Vetements, is also alumni.
