Tetsu Kono (1907-1984) was a photographer based in Osaka who explored new forms of photographic expression in the postwar era; his career included membership in the prewar "Tanpei Photography Club," participation in the "Democrat Artists Association" (formed at the behest of Ei-Q), and the later establishment of the "Spiegel Photography Association." This volume is the only photobook he self-published during his lifetime. The project was initiated around 1975—when he was suffering from a serious illness—at the strong urging of peers such as Shisui Tanahashi, Hatsutaro Horiuchi, and Takeji Iwamiya; it compiles images that left a lasting impression on him, selected from a diverse body of work spanning the years 1930 to 1975. While the monochrome images capture scenes from everyday life, the powerful composition of the frames immediately commands attention. Ultimately, he stands as a pivotal figure in the realm of photographic expression in the Kansai region from the prewar period through the postwar years. Signed copy.
