Herb Ritts (1952-2002) was born into a Jewish family to a furniture businessman father and an interior designer mother. Initially working in furniture, which was also the family business, he moved to the East Coast to attend Bard College in New York, where he majored in economics and art history. He then lived in Los Angeles, where he shot his friend Richard Gere, who was still an actor, and started his career as a photographer. In 1981, he photographed Brooke Shields and was appointed to the cover of the magazine "ELLE", and later worked on Olivia Newton-John's "Physical" album jacket and Madonna's "True Blue". . From the 1980s to the 1990s, he photographed numerous celebrities and became a fashion photographer of the moment. The Ritz exhibition held at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts from 1996 to 1997 recorded more than 250,000 visitors, and it can be said that its influence was enormous. However, in 2002, he died at the young age of 50 from pneumonia due to weakened immune system caused by AIDS. This book is a collection of monochrome works bound by dividing men and women into upper and lower volumes. His model Naomi Campbell and others participated.
